Massob: Why Uwazuruike Was Arrested

By Jude Orji\Enugu

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra- MASSOB has explained why policemen from Zone 9 Command, Umuahia  arrested its leader, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike last Tuesday.  The self-determination group said it was because  Uwazuruike was insisting that MASSOB’s name would not be used to disrupt Anambra governorship election on 6 February .

MASSOB National Director of Information- Comrade Uchenna Madu stated this in a statement made available to P.M.NEWS.

“His arrest was as a result of MASSOB’s detention of Mr. Paschal Okorie who has just arrived from USA to organize and empower the so-called Biafra Army in readiness to disrupt Anambra State governorship election”.

According to him, Paschal belonged to a splinter group that is insisting that there will be no election in Anambra State. The dissidents, therefore, vowed to unleash mayhem during the said election to make a point, using MASSOB name, he alleged.

This brought them in conflict with the majority loyal to Chief Uwazuruike who took  Paschal away to make him see reason and educate him on what the home-based members suffered in Onitsha in 2006 during the shoot-on-sight order by the combined forces of army and police battalions sent to crush the group then.

The MASSOB spokesman alleged that desperate politicians in Igboland have been using money to mobilize, form, organise and arm their group called ‘Biafra Army’ to unleash mayhem in Anambra State during the February 6 governorship election.

MASSOB, therefore, called for the immediate release of its leader, Uwazuruike, by the police in the interest of peace, vowing not to allow anyone or group to use Biafra to perpetrate evil in Biafra land.
